Spiritual development is an intrinsic part of our Christian Vision at Lovington Church of England Primary School, and is fostered through all aspects of our provision. This enables pupils to flourish, developing deep connections with themselves, others, the world and God. It encourages children’s deeper empathy for others, a greater understanding of themselves as well recognising the impact they can have on those around them, the environment and the wider world.
We recognise that spirituality is a personal experience and will differ from each individual and may change within people during the course of their lifetime. It is our role to nurture this, to develop the children’s natural curiosity, encouraging pupils to think deeply and ask big questions about the world in which they live.
Through spirituality, the children develop a sense of awe and wonder, growing academically, emotionally and morally whilst feeling confident and empowered to make a positive impact within their own community.
Spiritual development at Lovington Primary is embraced during Collective Worship, with moments of stillness and reflection, the lighting of the candle and follows strong moral messages that relate to British values and the importance of respect and diversity.

Demonstrate curiosity, asking questions and understand that the views of others may be different from their own.
Appreciate and be thankful for what is positive in life.
Be kind and respectful towards all.
Spirituality weaves through all aspects of our daily life at school. It is woven through our school values, our vision and daily practices.
Our daily act of worship is a central feature of our school day and enables all pupils and adults in our community to be actively engaged, to pray and sing, and to reflect on spiritual matters.
Our children learn about nature and the role they play in protecting our world. We appreciate our environment and encourage those moments of awe and wonder.
The pupils experience an ambitious and broad curriculum with varied and well-planned learning experiences, igniting their interests and talents.
Enrichment experiences are planned, for example through specialist artist workshops, rainforest experts and musicians that visit our school.
We explore diverse cultures, traditions and beliefs through our lessons, learning experiences and multi-cultural days.
Pupils have opportunities to be creative and imaginative. For example; through musical productions, art and choir.
Pupils have opportunities to lead Collective Worship at school and at St Thomas a Becket Church.
Pupils enjoy links with the community, such as the choir performing outside of school and Maypole dancing at our May Fayre.
The school promotes mindfulness and supports charities close to our hearts and the curriculum, that are chosen by the children. (For example – The Rainforest Trust and Yeovil Hospital)
Pupils engage in acts of kindness, nominating others each week to receive the kindness cup as well as taking on roles such as well-being ambassadors.
Pupils engage in acts of service, taking on Lovington Lolly roles and caring for our school. For example; librarians, Collective Worship monitors and site managers.
Pupils engage in reading for pleasure, talking about and sharing stories and providing book recommendations for one another.
We take every opportunity we can to celebrate diversity and respect. Books around the school are chosen carefully to support this.
Each classroom has a candle and a prayer corner, which enables the class to come together and reflect. Displays around the school reflect our Christian values.
We celebrate children’s achievements through Praise Worship, certificates, house points, regular verbal praise and on the weekly newsletter.
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs throughout the academic year including gardening, swimming, football, choir, junk modelling, animation and netball.
Our policies reflect our values and ethos, promoting spiritual growth and development.
